In an effort to get to know the great athletes of Stampede CrossFit, we showcase an Athlete of the Month to introduce someone who demonstrates a drive to better their fitness and life. This athlete shows determination, growth, and the overall will to do their very best. These CrossFitters consistently push their training to the limit and are worth recognizing.
Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I was born in Manila, Philippines and immigrated to the United States when I was six years old with my mom and sister. My sister June, introduced me to CrossFit and to the wonderful people at Stampede. My mom, sister, and I are very close and use a very endearing word “bruha” meaning witch to refer to one another.
Occupation/Education? I attended California State University, Hayward (now CSU-East Bay) and graduated with a degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in History. I earned my teaching credential at CSU, Stanislaus and shortly after that I earned my Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction. The 2018-2019 school year will mark my thirteenth year teaching for Patterson Joint Unified School District.
Hobbies/Interests? I love reading and from what I have read about Abraham Lincoln, I think he is the greatest president ever! I love to swim, though I keep the swimming within the realm of a pool because even though sharks fascinate me, I also have an irrational fear of them.

Sometimes, I need a reminder that what I have is enough and to be thankful for it always.
Tell us something we don’t know about you? I met my husband when I was 12 years old. Then, he was just my best friend’s mean, older brother; didn’t pay too much attention to us except to tell us that we called the house looking for his sister way too much. Years later, when I was a freshman in college, he asked me out on a date. We got married five years after our first date and are celebrating our thirteenth wedding anniversary this month. I still have the same group of friends, and we are still calling his sister, way too much.
What is your fitness background? I did not play any sports in high school,although I joined the swim team for a day. My mom was a single mom and swim practice interfered with my work schedule. It was one thing or the other…and I needed to work. I jog occasionally and I swim leisurely.
How has SCF changed your health & life? Stampede has changed my outlook in what I think I can do and what I can actually do. I used to have difficulty carrying anything over ten pounds. I’ve surprised myself lately and because of it I feel empowered. But mostly, I enjoy the workouts and the people I have met at Stampede.
What are your goals as an athlete? My goal as an athlete is to live a healthy life, to challenge myself a bit more, and continue enjoying an active lifestyle. One day, I will do a pull-up without bands!
What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My favorite CrossFit movement is the thruster. I also love boot camp workouts.
What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit? If ever you go home shaky and wanting to throw up, you have to keep coming back. You’ll surprise yourself!
Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I moved to Patterson, CA in 2013, but was born and raised in LA. I am the oldest sibling to two brothers, Troy and Seth. My mom is Michelle who also goes to SCF. We have always been into fitness and sports, which brings us together.
Occupation/Education? Customer Service Representative at Topcon Corporation in Livermore, CA. I am currently going to school for nursing, but also thinking about minoring in business management.
Hobbies/Interests? Making new memories and being spontaneous with my other half, Daniel 😊 (he’s the guy who never seems to leave the gym)

Tell us something we don’t know about you? I am surprisingly very good at drawing and very creative.
What is your fitness background? I was always in athletics growing up such as track, cheer, and tennis. After high school I tried to remain in the gym, but didn’t see myself motivated. Then in 2012-2013 is when I got into CrossFit in SoCal and never looked back since.
How has SCF changed your health & life? SCF has made me strong physically and mentally. I now see myself pushing harder and not taking my workouts for granted. I’m the strongest I’ve ever been and doing movements I’d never think I could do and it’s only going to get better.
What are your goals as an athlete? To start handstand walking and get my first bar muscle up! Also, get in the best shape I’ve ever been in.
What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? No workout is my favorite or it would get easier! Lol and favorite movement is power clean
What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit? Don’t feel discouraged walking into your first class. We’ve all been there. Stay consistent and eat clean! You will see great results.
Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I was born and raised in the Bay Area. Ive been married to my husband for 21 years and together we have 4 amazing children.
Occupation/Education? I am very fortunate to be able to be a stay at home mom.
Hobbies/Interests? Some of my hobbies are camping, hiking ,traveling, crafting and working out.

Tell us something we don’t know about you? I used to bake pinterest inspired custom cakes.
What is your fitness background? I never made fitness a priority until about 4 years ago. I had health issues so I made changes to my eating habits and started running. Since then I have trained for and completed 3 half marathons.
How has SCF changed your health & life? SCF has had such a great impact on my life. I feel the strongest and healthiest I have ever been! I have so much energy to keep up with my hectic life and I have learned so much about what it really means to eat healthy.
What are your goals as an athlete?My goals are to become stronger and be able to complete a full rx workout without modifications.
What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My favorites are workouts that incorporate running and love deadlifts.
What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit? If i can do it…anyone can do it!.. Don’t look ahead at the WOD otherwise you will make excuses to not show up. After class you will feel so accomplished and glad you went!
Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I am a first generation born of immigrant parents, my father is from Mexico and my mother is from Thailand. I’m originally from Salt Lake City, UT where my parents met. I was raised in Modesto, CA where I completely my primary and secondary education.
Occupation/Education? I am a registered nurse. I obtained my Associate’s Degree of Nursing at Modesto Junior College and Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at CSU Stanislaus.

Tell us something we don’t know about you? I completed my first race ever in the Spartan Super race in summer 2016 which was the most pivotal moment of my life. I knew that if i could overcome something this challenging I can overcome almost anything I set my mind to.
What is your fitness background? I’ve don’t have any background playing in any sports other than the traditional PE classes required in school. I began taking aerobics and Pilates classes in college then joining a conventional gym where I trained myself to work on target areas but often found myself reaching a plateau or competing for equipments.
How has SCF changed your health & life? I’ve challenged myself in so many ways that I’ve never thought were possible until I joined SCF with the support of the amazing coaches and the encouragement of my peers. I feel and look the best than I’ve ever been in my life. It has been a positive outlet and journey through my first year with SCF.
What are your goals as an athlete? To continue to challenge myself physically, setting new goals and living a healthful life.
What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My favorite movement is doing a deadlift and my favorite cardio workout is rowing. I even bought the exact row machine for our home.
What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit? The hardest part of committing is showing up, you’ll be glad you did once you’re there. The coaches, the teamwork and the workouts are the reasons that keep me motivated! Keep your personal goals in mind and try not to discourage yourself by comparing yourself to others in the class. There are a broad range of athletes with different skill levels and experience. Also, keep up your journal entries for the movements/workouts you’ve done you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come! =)
Tell us a little bit about you and your family?I grew up in Patterson, Ca. I met my wife during undergraduate school at CSU Stanislaus. We have two dogs named Kingsley and Sprocket, and a cat named Zippy.
Occupation/Education?I am a clinical pharmacist at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. I completed my undergraduate degree in Biology at CSU Stanislaus, and attended grad school and pharmacy school at University of the Pacific.
Hobbies/Interests?I am very passionate about cars, and have recently begun competing in autocross events with my wife.
Tell us something we don’t know about you?I used to research black widow spider silk, and I am one of the first people in the United States to make a synthetic version of their web.
What is your fitness background?I have always loved endurance sports. I competed in track and field as well as cross country in high school, and also have road biked for the past 15 years. My biggest accomplishment is completing a bike ride, know as the death ride, six times.
How has SCF changed your health & life?I have always focused on endurance activities, so stampede crossfit has introduced me to weight lifting and strength training that I’ve never done before.
What are your goals as an athlete? My goal is to always have fun. I have enjoyed learning new movements and meeting people.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I was born and raised in San Jose, CA and moved to Patterson back in 2001 after a friend convinced my husband (back then fiancé) and me to visit when we were looking to purchase a home. I have the most thoughtful husband and two handsome teenage boys. We also have the cutest dog and two cats. As a family, we enjoy traveling and going places near and far.
Occupation/Education? I graduated from Santa Clara University with a BS in Biology and minor in Ethnic Studies. Currently, I’m working at a medical device company in Pleasanton as a Senior Analyst within our Post Market Surveillance department.
Hobbies/Interests?Lately, most of my time is spent working and commuting, so when I have free time I look forward to resting. However, I do enjoy running so I try to get some short runs during the week and a long one in on weekends. Also on a yearly basis, I embark on a home project. Love everything from researching to planning but my favorite is seeing the final outcome.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?I’m somewhat of an introvert and quiet, but I’ve been told that I tend to be very chatty after drinking a few alcoholic drinks. J
What is your fitness background?I’d have to say I was a late bloomer J. It wasn’t until after I had my second child that I really started to eat healthier and start exercising. In 2009 I started running and fortunately it’s the one good habit that I haven’t stopped. I ran my first ½ marathon back in October of 2009 and ran my one and only full marathon in SF back in November of 2011. I love how running makes me feel, but also enjoy taking classes that help with keeping me toned.
Tell us a little bit about you and your family? My family and I enjoy working out and love the outdoors.
Occupation/Education? I have been a police officer for 10 years and enjoy the profession.
Hobbies/Interests? My only hobby is my workouts. I work a lot, my career keeps me very busy and CrossFit keeps me in shape and healthy

Tell us something we don’t know about you? In high school I thought it would be cool to take French instead of Spanish, all 4 years!
What is your fitness background? I’ve been doing Crossfit for 6 1/2 yrs. Before Crossfit I did the regular globo gym routine.. pay for a membership I hardly used.
How has SCF changed your health & life? I’ve become a lot more confident and eager to compete at competitions. I have better nutrional knowledge and I’ve also meal prepped!
What are your goals as an athlete? My current goal is to get back to squatting heavy. I’ve been nursing a hip injury for the past 5 months so squatting has been almost non existent in my programming.
What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My favorite wod is Fran without a doubt. There’s something about the gut wrenching anticipation I feel the whole day before doing the wod. Then the firebreathing that occurs after!
What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit? Stick with it! I was really intimated when I started but after awhile you are able to see what you’re capable of and it’s an awesome feeling.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I am a mother of 3 incredible children.Bruno 21, a U.S.Marine. America 14, 10th grader at OHS. Damon 6, 1st grader. They are my world.
Occupation/Education? I work for AT&T. I have been with AT&T for almost 21 yrs.
Hobbies/Interests? Hobbies & interest are really anything that my kids want to do & experience, I am always a part of that and live vicariously through them. I am America’s & Damon’s personal taxi driver and I love every minute of it.

What is your fitness background? Before CrossFit I only did light work outs, not on a regular basis, but enough to keep me somewhat fit & healthy.
How has SCF changed your health & life? SCF has changed my life because my daily WOD partner is my America, my daughter. Working out with her has brought us closer together then we have ever been before. I have accomplished things at SCF that I NEVER thought I would physically & mentally be able to do. And of course, all 3 of my children are proud of me for doing it and enjoy seeing me in pain. SCF has changed my health because I am very conscious of my diet. It has given me the much needed physical energy that I was lacking. I look forward to working out everyday and love when WOD is over and I cannot believe that I got through it when I didn’t think I would.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family?My family is small. In the beginning there was Dad, myself, and sister. Our mom passed away when we were very young, so we were raised by our dad.I am very close to my sister even though we don’t se eye-to-eye (when it comes to my excessive need for shopping). Now it is husband, myself, and sister. We got married 2 ½ years. I love spending as much time together as we can because he travels a lot for work.
Occupation/Education? I am a paraprofessional working at an elementary school. I help kids improve their reading, writing, and math skills. I am also a translator.
Hobbies/Interests? I like working on Crossword Puzzles (my husband provides the answer, I write it in) and Sudoku (hate it when he tells me what numbers go in each box). I absolutely LOVE shopping even if it’s not for me.

What is your fitness background? Does high school physical education count? I tried Zumba for some time and though I really enjoyed it and lost a bit of weight, I would more often than not find myself making excuses to not go.
How has SCF changed your health & life? SCF has changed my way of thinking regarding working out. I would look at other people doing heavy lifting or other strenuous workouts and think, “they must be CRAZY.” Well I have officially joined the CRAZY club and I love it. I actually look forward to working out. I really like that SCF posts the workouts before hand so that I know what I’m getting myself into. I have gotten stronger and just started to notice a little bit of muscle.
What are your goals as an athlete? My goals are to improve in all movements, technique,continue getting stronger, and hopefully make it to Steer.

What is your LEAST favorite CrossFit workout or movement? It used to be running (because I’m not very good at it), but now hands down I would have to say rowing (it takes a toll on your entire body).

Do not be scared, set reasonable goals for YOU, do not worry if the person next to you is able to do more(you will get there), work at your own pace, listen to the coaches, there will most definitely be pain, but TOTALLY worth it in the long run.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I am a father of one beautiful, happy and energetic 2 ½ year old son, Brody, who is the light of my life and keeps me on my toes when I’m not at CrossFit. I was raised in Patterson by my father, Marty, and Mother, Marilyn, both of whom passed away when I was younger. All 3 are a large part of the reason I do CrossFit, and continually push myself to be a better student, athlete and father.
Occupation/Education? I graduated with an AA from MJC and a degree in Communication from UC Santa Barbara, and am currently an Energy Specialist for Cenergistic and a substitute teacher.
Hobbies/Interests? I love baseball, watching and playing. I also love golf (though not very good at it). Collecting Beatles memorabilia and tattoos.I also love music, Oldies and Classic Rock are my go to. Discovering new (old) bands and songs may be my favorite thing next to working out. I also love aquatic life and have owned/built Saltwater and Freshwater fish tanks. Also, beating Matt.

What is your fitness background? I had done body building/standard workouts in high school/college and after until I discovered CrossFit. I have now been doing CrossFit for about 5 years, stopping for about a year to raise my son.
How has SCF changed your health & life? SCF has given me the insight and knowledge to better myself as a CrossFitter. Whether it’s nutrition advice or advice on movements or technique, there is always someone there that knows the answer to my question. SCF has made me substantially stronger and more confident in competing. SCF has become like a second home to me, it is an amazing atmosphere with great people and an encouraging environment. What are your goals as an athlete? Beating Matt and a 6-pack. Otherwise, I would like to make regionals as a master in a few years. Until then, a top 500 finish in the NorCal region would make me happy.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I have my dad Rich, my mom Alba, she does CrossFit too. I also have my two brothers Damon and Bruno. My family love to hang out with each other. We watch movies together. My little brother Damon plays almost all sports, and Bruno is a US Marine. We also have a cat named Chuck that is 17 years old.

What is your fitness background? I had played softball since I was 8 years old till I was 12 ½. I have also played basketball, swimming, and soccer once.
How has SFC changed your health & life? SCF has changed my life by becoming my life. It is spectacular in so many ways. I still know the day I joined – July 21, 2015. It is exhilarating, the adrenaline from completing a WOD or maxing out just consumes me and I love it. It has made me stronger, happier, and more confident.
What are your goals as an athlete? To reach the highest rank by the time I am a senior in high school.
What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? Power Snatches and cleans. And HSPU, and pull ups, and back squats.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family?So I live in Patterson with my mom and my dad. My mom volunteers here and there around town. My dad is retired and loves to work on his car. My mom enjoys gardening and sewing. Now we own a bunch of animals. We own 4 cats (named Pumpkin, Tim, Jackie, and Chancho), 2 chickens (Lori and Lucifer), and 1 dog (named Tyson).
Occupation/Education? I graduated from UC Merced with a BA in U.S. History and a minor in Art. I’m planning on becoming a special education teacher. I’m about half a semester away or so from finishing the credential program at CSU Stanislaus. I currently work as substitute teacher and a High School swim coach for the Patterson Joint Unified School District.
Hobbies/Interests? I absolutely love to bake! I love baking sweets, but currently have picked up making homemade bread. I thoroughly enjoy going to baseball games, especially if the A’s are playing. I love to do crafts, DIY projects, and coming home to relax with my dog Tyson.

Recent adventure you’re planning? I’m planning on doing another Disney Run at the beginning of next year.
What is your fitness background? Before Crossfit, I had been a swimmer (well I still am a swimmer) and I had done a few exercise classes here and there like Zumba, yoga, and kickboxing.
How has SFC changed your health & life? SFC has changed my life by not only helping me become stronger, but by helping me become more self-confident. SFC is amazing and I’m glad to have joined. It’s a great way to relieve stress and it’s one of my favorite places to go to have fun. Everybody here is super supportive and I’m glad to have made new friends here.
What are your goals as an athlete? Well I would like to eventually compete in one Crossfit competition and run another 10k.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? Grew up here in the Central Valley. First lived in the mobile home park in Santa Nella, then moved to Gustine. We now live in Newman. Married to a beautiful woman inside and out who is now a school nurse. She was born and raised here in Patterson. We have two wonderful kids (Xavier – 7 and Haley – 5).
Occupation/Education? I am a local Realtor with Century 21 M&M and Associates. I help people buy and sell homes here in the Patterson/Newman area. Call me for all your real estate needs!
Hobbies/Interests? Aside from work, majority of time is spent with my family. We enjoy sports, movies, camping and beaches.

Tell us something we don’t know about you? I am very shy.
What is your fitness background? Took a class in high school, spent a few years in and out of a regular gym, off and on working out at home with P90X.
How has SFC changed your health & life? Before, I used to work out alone and was never able to push myself to grow or do more/better. I wasted a lot of time thinking about what kind of work out to do and really didn’t know if I was doing it right. It was very easy to miss days/weeks/months because I had no one to hold me accountable. Crossfit has solved all of those problems! Thanks SFC!
What are your goals as an athlete? Current Goal: Doing a muscle up. Future…making it through all of the levels.

What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit? When you start you may ask yourself how am I ever going to do what they do or lift what they lift…keep showing up, you’ll get there and you’ll see the results.

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I was born and raised in Southern California. After high school I played softball at Palomar Junior College and after I transferred to Oklahoma State University where I got my BS in Physical Education. I taught PE and coached basketball and softball in Oklahoma for 7 years. After meeting Ann, we moved back to Los Banos and then to Newman where we currently live with our 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 horses. I have been teaching middle school PE for 18 years.
Occupation/Education? Physical Education Teacher, Athletic Director and soccer coach. AA Liberal Arts and Science from Palomar Jr. College. BS Physical Education from Oklahoma State University
Hobbies/Interests? Being outdoors, going to the lake in the summer, wakeboarding, hanging out with our animals, traveling and spending time with friends.

Recent adventure you’re planning? We are headed to Tahoe in January and Seattle in April. This will be our first time to Seattle.
Tell us something we don’t know about you? I record and watch The Young and The Restless every day, lol, I love it! I started watching with my grandma because she baby sat us when we were young, so I’ve been watching it for like 40 years.
What is your fitness background? I grew up playing many sports, soccer, softball, bowling, skateboarding, going to the beach. I was lucky to have my family always introducing new games to us. In high school, I played field hockey, basketball (one year), soccer and softball. Played Jr. College softball. I have always been active.
How has SFC changed your health & life? It has inspired me to become stronger and push myself harder. It got me out of a rut of laziness. I feel better about myself and I am a happier person at work and home. I love the intensity and diversity of the workouts and the family atmosphere.
What are your goals as an athlete? To be consistent in attending workouts, to keep getting stronger and drop some pounds but still working on the eating part.
