These CrossFitters consistently push their training to the limit and are worth recognizing.

Carlos Medina

I’m a 43 year old  who strives to be healthy and fit to keep the teenage boys away from my daughters.
I’m married to Elisa Medina for 16 yrs , and we have 3 children together. My oldest is Carli(15), Emma (13),CJ (10).
I work at Thompson Chevrolet/Buick/GMC, I’m a sales and lease consultant for ten years.
Stampede has changed my life by being aware of my eating habits and how quick you can lose your coordination if you aren’t physically fit.
Something people don’t know about me is i hate running!

Daniel Reza (September)

1) My name is Daniel Joseph Reza. Ive lived in Patterson my whole life and I am the youngest of 5. I have two brothers and two sisters.
2) I’m recently working at a construction site in manteca and looking to going back to school for kinesiology.
3) I love anything outdoors. For example, go hiking, to the beach, to the lake, snowboarding, and playing any and all sports. My hobbies consist of exercising, hanging out with my better half, family, and friends.
4) “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is out light, not our darkness, that most frighten us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were all meant to shine as children do. It is not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, are presences automatically liberate to others.”
5) I’m planning on going to Cabo with my family this November for my oldest sisters wedding.
6) I’ve never been outta the country and I’ve never been on an airplane. Both things are going to be crossed off with the trip to Cabo.
7) I’ve played sports my whole life. Mainly football, basketball and baseball. But I love to play all sports and with sports comes exercising. I would always only do isolation workouts at the gym until my first day at stampede.
8) Stampede has changed my life in so many ways. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in my whole life. It’s taken my fitness and mind set to a whole new level. It’s taught me to never doubt myself, limit myself, and to always have an open mind. The atmosphere and people are incredible and everyone wants you to succeed and become better. Joining Stampede Crossfit was one of the best choices that I’ve made and I have Nikki Sarai Campos to thank for that!
9) My goal is to be doing this for the rest of my life with no major injuries.
10) I can’t say I have a favorite wod or movement since there’s so many workouts to choose from. It’s a love/hate relationship.
11) The one movement I dislike the most would have to be the snatch.
12) Half the battle is just showing up to the gym. Do YOUR best don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. Your best competitor is yourself, not your friend, sibling or anyone.

Real life heros: My Mom and Dad
Favorite movie: Coach Carter

Amy Pierce

Athlete of the Month Widget-Amy

I moved to Patterson 15 years ago when I married my husband, Bobby. We have 4 kids. Frances 11, Claire 10, Jacob 5 and Caleb 3. I was a second grade teacher at a catholic school until our family grew. Then I stared working part time for PUSD as a home and hospital teacher and a substitute teacher. I am currently in the process of starting a new job as an Agriculture Work Experience Coordinator with the High School.

I love spending my free time camping with my family and traveling. I also love being a part of 4H and helping my kids with their livestock animals.

The words I live by are that you have been given this gift of life, so live each day to the fullest. Enjoy the moment you are living.

My recent adventure I am planning is our move from town out to the country.

Something you don’t know about me is that I am the middle sister of 3 girls.

I have always made working out a priority in my life. I am excited to jump back into it after taking a break from having kids and running them around. SCF has made me a stronger person. It has given me more confidence in what my body can do. My goal as an athlete is to continue to learn each move and do them correctly. My favorite CrossFit workouts are when we do rounds of short runs followed by a lifting exercise. I like them because it is a conditioning and strength work out and it gets me outside. My least favorite CrossFit workout is numerous wall balls or squats. When I do that, I discover my true age in my knees.

My advise to new members joining is to not give up, don’t compare yourself to anyone but your own personal growth, be prepared to be sore, but keep it up so it will all pay off. This is your life, your health, you only get once chance at it!!

Favorite cheat meal is anything fried!

Favorite real life Heroes are my parents.

Favorite movie is Mother’s Day and The Sound of Music.

My go to meal is tacos and my go to snack is coffee with creme.

Ann Mesman

Athlete of the Month Widget2

Our Interview…

Hi my name is Ann Mesman and I live in Newman. I was born and raised on a dairy and loved growing up around animals, especially cows and horses.  I have been in love with sports ever since I could remember.  I have been involved with soccer, gymnastics, swim team, baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball just to name a few.

I received an AA degree in Liberal Studies from Merced College and then got a softball scholarship to the University of Tulsa where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management with a specialization in Family Owned Business Management.  I am a Dairy Sales Consultant for Cargill Animal Nutrition and have been with Cargill since March 2011.

I enjoy boating and especially water skiing, tubing and wakeboarding with friends and family almost every weekend during the summer ( I even bought a wet suit so I could ski in the middle of the winter!)  I also love horseback riding, camping, hiking, traveling and spending time with loved ones!

My favorite words to live by are “Work Hard and Play Hard.”  I’ve been told that I am an extreme person, I like to give everything I do 110%!

I am planning a trip to Lake Tahoe in January with friends and family in January to watch the NFL Football Playoffs.  Hopefully there will be some snow on the mountains this year so we can hit the slopes!

Most people do not know that I was inducted into the Merced College Hall of Fame in October for softball.  It was the most amazing two years there!

I’ve always been an active person and like to be outside rather than sitting in the house.  When I got to college and started getting into weight lifting and conditioning, I enjoyed it and wanted to get back to it.

I absolutely love SCF and tell everyone I see how wonderful it is.  I think the coaches are amazing and the work outs are challenging.  I don’t think I’ve ever walked out of the gym and thought to myself, “That was a piece of cake!”  The thing that I like most about crossfit is that anyone can do it.  I started SCF on June 8th of this year and since then, I’ve lost 10 pounds, can bench press 140 pounds, and am in much better conditioning shape.  At the end of this summer I was able to water ski for 20 minutes straight without being completely worn out and done for the day, and was excited  to tell my coaches about it when I saw them the following Monday.

My goals as an athlete are to push myself, get stronger and to always improve.  Of course I’d like to lose a few more pounds along the way!

My favorite crossfit move is the Push Jerk.  My upper body is stronger than my lower, so anything I can power through up top works well for me.  My least favorite movement is the snatch squat.  It’s hard enough to do a snatch and then to have to squat at the same time.

My advice for anyone new members would be to give SCF a chance.  I was extremely nervous about going for the first time, but knew I wanted to stay active over the summer.  It has changed my life for the better and now I can’t imagine not going every week.  The coaches are fantastic and will help you get to where you want to be, you just have to be willing to put in the effort and show up consistently.

Favorite cheat meal: Pizza

Favorite Athlete: Luke Kuechly

Favorite Book: Anything written by Chelsea Handler

My Go-To meal/snack: Beef Jerky

What is your fitness background?  I played basketball and was on a swim team for many years. I’ve been consistently working out since I met my husband when we were 19 because he was a personal trainer. I started crossfit a little over 2 years ago and I’m hooked. Crossfit has made me a stronger and faster athlete. I really enjoy where crossfit has taken me.

How has SFC changed your health & life?  SFC has helped me become stronger and has definitely improved my cardio in my workouts. I always get good advice from the coaches have improved on many movements since joining.

What are your goals as an athlete? My goals as an athlete are to continue getting stronger while improving my technique. There are always things that I need to work on and can improve on so I will continue making it my goal to learn new movements and improve on lifts.

What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My favorite crossfit movement is the clean. I like that it does involve some technique, but is still fairly simple.

What is your LEAST favorite CrossFit workout or movement? The SNATCH. I wouldn’t say I hate it, but I dislike it. The technique involved in the snatch is frustrating, but is something I need to improve on.

What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit?   Be consistent. Listen to the coaches. Always do your best. Some people think crossfit is only for certain people and that isn’t true. I have seen many types of people succeed in crossfit. The coaches have a lot to offer…this is what they love. They will teach you if you are willing to listen. If you want to improve, then show up for class consistently because that is how you will get results.

Our interview….

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I really like being around my family and friends. My family is a huge part of my life and I hold them dear to my heart. I’m also an only child, so my mom is surrounded by all boys at the house. (Even the dogs are boys.)

How has SFC changed your health & life? Being part of SFC taught me that I can always learn something new whether it be from one of the coaches or my fellow athletes in class. I really enjoy that. I also love that it is okay to fail (sometimes), it just means I am trying something new or different which will make me better in the end.

What are your goals as an athlete?  Having been an athlete my goals are always high. For me, I would like to either make it to at LEAST CrossFit regionals one year, or maybe an Olympia stage, or maybe make it as a pro at golf. I just have to decide which path soon! But right now my goals are to be able to run a fast mile while getting stronger and leaner!

What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My favorite Crossfit Movement is a clean and jerk because it requires strength and finesse!

What is your LEAST favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My least favorite movement has to be a burpee!!!

What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit? Don’t be shy to try something new, or to fail at first! There is a learning curve, and you will improve with practice.

Hobbies/Interests? I  bleed  red  for  Utes  football  (University  of  Utah).  I  am  obsessed  with  dolphins.  I  enjoy  a  good   game  of  Candy  Crush,  Pet  Rescue,  Papa  Pear,  and  Farm  Heroes.  Anything  puzzle  like  that  makes   my  brain  work.  I  spend  my  time  on  things such  as  biking,  walking,  travel,  and  family.

Words  to  live  by  or  Favorite  Quote? “One  of  the  deep  secrets  of  life  is  that  all  that  is  really  worth  the  doing  is  what  we  do  for   others.”      -‐  Lewis  Carroll
Recent  adventure  you’re  planning?

Recent adventure you’re planning? Dinseyland  in  March  (Only  my  3rd  time  ever.  I  was  too  young  to  remember  the  first  time  and  the   second  time  was  this  past  year),  camping  at  Big  Sur  in  May,  and  Utah  in  July  for  the  kids’   birthdays.

Tell  us  something  we  don’t  know  about  you?   When  I  was  born,  I  ruptured  my  lungs  during  my  first  breath  because  the  cord  was  wrapped   around  my  throat,  forcing  me  to  take  too  deep  of  a  breath  for  a  newborn.

What  is  your  fitness  background?   have  always  been  into  sports.  I  was  on  the  bowling  team  and  I  played  basketball,  volleyball   and  lacrosse  in  high  school.  My  basketball  coach  required  that  we  take  weight  lifting  but  I  have   been  introduced  to  a  number  of  new  lifts/movements  since  starting SCF.  I  worked  with  a   personal  trainer  for  about  5  months  in  2013  and  had  awesome  results  but  it  didn’t  offer  the   atmosphere  I  was  looking  for  and  was  pricey.

How  has  SCF  changed  your  health  &  life? I  was  looking  for  something  that  offered  me  that  sense  of  comradery  and  atmosphere  that  you   have  in  team  sports.  I  have  found  that  I  excel  with  the  support  of  others  and  the  push  to   improve.  I  am  in  awe  of what  others  have  achieved  and  continue  to  push  themselves  towards   which  in  turn  gives  me  motivation  to  reach  for  more  in  myself.  SCF  has  offered  me  all  of  this   and  I  have  already  become  a  happier  me  through  my  progress.

What  are  your  goals  as  an  athlete?  To  gain  a  healthier  lifestyle  again,  building  quality  eating  habits  and  getting  back  to  a  consistent   workout  routine.  To  be  able  to  look  in  the  mirror  again  and  like  the  person  I  see.  Also  can’t  wait   to  get  my  first  unassisted pull-‐up,  handstand  push-‐up,  and  10  unbroken  double  unders.

What  is  your  Favorite  CrossFit  workout  or  movement? Hard  to  pick  a  favorite  but  I  really  enjoy  back  squat  and  rowing.

What  is  your  LEAST  favorite  CrossFit  workout  or  movement? Burpees…  We  just  don’t  get  along.

What  advice  would  you  give  to  new  members  joining  CrossFit?   Stick  with  it.  Be  sure  to  set  short  term  goals  with  your  overall  long-‐term  goal(s).  You  want  to   have  ‘little’  achievements  to  help  keep  your  interest.  Then  remind  yourself  that  no
achievement  is  truly  little.    There  is  nothing  little  about  getting  that  first  double  under  or   handstand  push-‐up  or  strict  pull-‐up  or  full  rope  climb,  etc.

Fill  in  the  Blank

Favorite  Cheat  Meal… Cookie  dough…  Or  a  fire  grilled  steak  salad  from  Café  Rio  with  their  house  dressing.

Favorite  Real-‐Life  Hero/Athlete…

Hero:  Mother  Teresa
Athlete:  John  Stockton  –  I  watched  him  while  growing  up  and  I  just  think  he  is  a  good  athlete   and  a  class  act.

Movie: Patch Adams and Pay it Forward
Book: The Shack by: William P. Young and Rachel’s Tears by: Darrell Scott and Beth Nimmo with Steve Rabey

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? I pretty much grew up in Patterson. My family consists of my two parents an older sister a younger brother and my girlfriend Francelia and her two dogs. She also attends Stampede CrossFit. I enjoy helping her and pushing her to her limits.

Occupation/Education? I am currently employed at the CVS distribution center in Patterson.

Hobbies/Interests? I play indoor soccer in Turlock every Thursday, which is why I never attend CrossFit on that day. My current interest is fantasy football, which is about to start, and I’m really looking forward to making Fran watch every game.

Recent adventure you’re planning? The Tomato WOD Massacre.

Tell us something we don’t know about you? I have four dogs two are indoor dogs (Tiny & Baylee) and the other two stay outside (Roxy & Duke). I also like to watch the food network channel.

I got into CrossFit thanks to Francelia. She heard about it through a friend and she convinced me to give it a try and that’s when I joined CrossFit ParaBellum in Turlock back in July (awesome Box btw).

How has SCF changed your health & life? Stampede has changed my health by pushing me to my limits. If it wasn’t for CrossFit I would probably be at home eating a burrito and watching tv instead of doing handstand push ups or burpees. I’ve learned so much about the fitness world through CrossFit.

Our Interview…

Tell us a little bit about you and your family?  My family has deep roots in Patterson, settling here over 100 years ago and still farming and dairying on the same original ranch. My parents are John and Debbie, 2 older brothers and fellow Crossfitters Johnny and Matt, Zumba loving sister Teresa, an awesome sister in law Rachel and the cutest niece and nephew, Mia and Max.

Words to live by or Favorite Quote?  “You only YOLO once” – Workaholics. Let that sink in.

Recent adventure you’re planning?  I keep saying it and I need to just book already, but I’d like to go to Costa Rica and Belize. Do some zip lining and get a tan.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?  I’m bitter blind. Can’t taste bitter foods or drinks; strong espresso, weak coffee… it all tastes the same. This is the one and only thing I remember from college biology. It affects 1 in 4 people.

What is your fitness background?  In high school I played some volleyball and soccer for a few years. After that, I did kickboxing, yoga, and tried the gym thing. Past 3 years I’ve done a handful of Outdoor Boot camps but I didn’t like getting yelled at and texting photos of all my food. Before Stampede, I was at a local ‘sorta’ CrossFit gym where we did ‘lots of glorified calisthenics and shallow squats.

How has SFC changed your health & life?  I’m stronger and faster now than when I started. I have more defined goals of what I want to be as an athlete and the blueprints to get it done.

Our interview….

Tell us a little bit about you and your family? There’s five of us in our family including two dogs and a cat.  I have two younger brothers and my mom and my dad.  We havent always been an athletic family but as my brothers and I got older we got more involved in sports from baseball to football and my favorite paintball!  My mom got into kickboxing and that led into crossfit and my dad does regular workouts from P90x.

Occupation/Education? I work as a pool technichian for the Patterson Aquatic Center and also handle all the general maintenance for the senior center and skate park.  Right now I am currently going to MJC with a major in photography.

Hobbies/Interests? I have a strong passion for paintball.  Its definitely my favorite sport by far.  I havent spent as much time playing as I have in the past but I plan on playing like Ive never played before and as much as I can.  I also enjoy photography and have done some cinematography on the side for a wedding and a quince.

Words to live by or Favorite Quote? I dont really have a saying that I live by, but I do think alot about the saying “Live life to the fullest” especially when stepping outside of my comfort zone as I dont very often.

Recent adventure you’re planning? I am planning to goto Vegas for the first real time with a group of friends to enjoy the loud thumping music at E.D.C. Ive never been but I plan on having an amazing time there and in Las Vegas!

Tell us something we don’t know about you? I talk so fast sometimes I end up mumbling half of what I meant and then realize that no one understood including me understood a word I just said.

What is your fitness background? I started lifting weights in high school for football and maintained a good workout routine for a couple years but I gradually slacked off.  I was at a point I didnt want to be with my health and my weight so after hearing my mom started training in crossfit I jumped right on and love it!

How has SFC changed your health & life? After joining Stampede Crossfit I now have fitness goals again.  Before I was just lifting weights to get bigger and stronger than my teammates.  Now I have a different approach where I want to be a well rounded athlete in everything I do from paintball to fun runs and straining activities that would otherwise wear me out. And crossfit is helping me achieve that.

What are your goals as an athlete? I want to eventually get my mile run time under seven minutes and have a better body that I can not only be proud of but use to do any activity I want!

What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My favorite crossfit movement is anything to have to do with power cleans.  Its a movement I avoided for years because I didnt want to work on the technique.  But its a move that has toned muscles I feel like Ive never worked before.

What is your LEAST favorite CrossFit workout or movement? Snatches! Its a movement I just havent gotten down completely yet and feels terrible when technique is off!

What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit? Definitely train at your own pace but dont be afraid to try new movements! Even if you cant do it trying gives you that experience to do better next time.

Fill in the Blank

Favorite Cheat Meal… My favorite cheat meal Chicken with Rice and Smothered in homemade gravy! I put greens on it to make it look healthy though.

Favorite Real-Life Hero/Athlete… I have a few but Ryan Greenspan from the paintball team Dynasty is the most prominent. He travels the world holding paintball clinics to train young players, plays at the top profession level of paintball and is on one of the best teams in the world!

Favorite Movie/Book… Snatch is definitely my favorite movie.

Your Go-To meal/snack… Pita wrap with hummus, spinach, cucumbers, tomato, cilantro, olive oil and turkey

It takes me an hour to get to Stampede CrossFit which for most people it would be a burden, to me it’s the best part my day. It is the place where I can forget about my day and focus on myself.

How has SFC changed your health & life? I have lost a total of 30 pounds since I have started at SFC. Before starting SCF, I was always unsuccessful in my weight lose because my mentality was “get skinny.” By starting SCF, all I think about is getting stronger. This change in my mentality has definitely showed in my appearance. It is the greatest feeling walking in the gym and getting complimented by my fellow athletes.

What are your goals as an athlete?  I have many goals as an athlete! To name a few, I would like to complete a pull up with no modifications. I would also like to do a upside down push up. Lastly, I would like to increase endurance.

What is your Favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My favorite movement is definitely the back squat because I love adding weight onto my bar.

What is your LEAST favorite CrossFit workout or movement? My least favorite movement is the snatch because the movement feels awkward.

What advice would you give to new members joining CrossFit?Be patient! The movements feel awkward at first but they become natural with time.
